Weekend Wrap-Up

Saturday
Saturday started out as a typical day. Logan and I went garage saleing to see what we could find. This week was very disappointing - there was nothing good found at the sales. So we decided to drive over to Marysville to hit the outlet mall. This trip was much more successful (for Logan, not me ). I was able to find him some new pairs of PJ's since he's beginning to outgrow most of his (I even found a pair for under $2!!). I also found him some nice polo onesies, some pants, and a pair of shorts. I think he's all set for summer now - I can't wait for him to wear all his cute little outfits! On our way home Mike called to let us know he was done taking his finals so we decided to meet him in town for lunch. Once we got home we had an appointment with a window company to come out and test our windows. Wow, do the windows we have suck!! They found a lot of air leaks in them and because we live in the Pacific NW they found some mold that was getting in because of the moisture that is out here year-round. In the next 2 months or so we will be getting some new windows. We aren't replacing the sliding patio door, the windows on either side of it, and the garden window. All others will be replaced though. I felt horrible because I had thought the black stuff on the perimeter on some of the windows was dirt but here it was mold! And as I'm sure you know mold is not good. Especially to breathe in, ESPECIALLY for Logan to breathe in!! So to help control the mold until we get the new windows I will need to spray them with a water/bleach solution about every two weeks. Fun, Fun, Fun!!
Sunday
I LOVE SUNDAYS!! Mike is so sweet because even though it's his only real day off he still lets me sleep in. I think Logan woke up at around 7:30 but I got to sleep in until about 9:30. I think Mike does that for himself too since it's the only time that he really gets to be alone with Logan. When I came downstairs they were both on the floor playing. I love just sitting on the couch and watching them. Every once in awhile Logan would look over at me and give me a smile. Such a perfect morning! It was so nice out on Sunday. We spent a lot of time outside getting some yard work done. Even Logan played outside. We put the pack n' play in the yard and he happily played in there for about 30 minutes. I was able to get alot of weeding, trimming, and hedging done. And it actually looks like progress is happening in the flower beds! Mike also worked on the brush pile and about half of the pile is now gone.

Hope you all had a great weekend - I'm so sad it went by so fast!!

First Tantrum

So now that Logan is on the move he's obviously getting into more stuff and exploring new terriory AND unfortunately testing the boundaries. Case in point: After getting up from his nap we came downstairs and I put Logan on the floor to play. He started out in the middle of the room and within a couple of minutes he was over by the stairs. I have a box over there that has his outgrown clothes in that I've been going through (deciding which ones to keep for the next one and which items to sell/give away). Well on top of the box was my purse. Logan decided it was time to play with Mommy's purse. I then decided to play mean Mommy and took the purse away. In retaliation Logan screamed for about 5 minutes standing beside the box because I took the purse away. I think though after he realized it wasn't coming back he promptly found his keys on the floor and started playing with them like nothing had happened.

Let the Baby-Proofing Begin

It's official.............Logan is on the move!! For the past couple of days Mike & I have been "helping" Logan learn to crawl. By helping I mean: put all toys and ourselves out of reach and make him work his way towards us and the toys. Hey, we may be mean but it worked! He's only been trying to get mobile for the past week and last night he accomplished it. It was so cute!! The video up on the site shows it.
He does it so clumsily (is that a word??) - he's like a giant traipsing through the living room. Every time his hand came down it was with so much force. BOOM!BOOM!BOOM! Then every once in awhile his legs would forget to move along with the rest of his body so he would sprawl out on the floor. But he would just get back up on his knees though and keep going. Did I mention how cute it was?? IT WAS DAMN CUTE!!
So now that he is completely mobile Logan & I made a trip to Babies 'R Us to buy the baby-proofing items - only I didn't know where to start. So all I bought were the outlet plug covers. We already have the drawer locks but I'm not sure what else to buy. I know we need a baby gate (or two). Any tips & hints would be greatly appreciated!

Why we are one step closer to being rednecks

Over the weekend we made a significant purchase. I decided to leave it out of my weekend wrap-up because I felt it was too important to include with "insignificant" purchases and whole days devoted to being lazy. Let me give you some background on our significant purchase. Our house is at the end of a dead end street. We have no neighbors behind us or to the west of us. The neighbors that are on the east are divided by a large row of trees and blackberry bushes. Our house is situated on a hill so the neighbors across the street do not have a good view of the west half of our property. This is to our advantage for when we decided to make the significant purchase. On the west side of our property there are more blackberry bushes and a lot of brush that has accumulated over the last year. We decided that in order to get rid of it without having to make about 10 trips to the dump we should burn it. We didn't want to burn it in the open though because we wanted to be responsible and hey your not very responsible if you start a forest fire or burn your house down, ya know?? So being the responsible people we are we did the smartest thing: we bought a burn barrel. Oh yeah, we are officially on our way to being rednecks!! So Sunday night we spent part of the evening burning branches in our burn barrel. It actually worked really well and we've made quite a dent in our brush pile. And did I mention we only paid $8 for it?? Oh yeah we are thrifty rednecks. A side note: Logan is SOO much like his father - he loves fire. Now I understand most kids might be kind of fascinated by fire but do they clench their fists, smile uncontrollably, start giggling & grunting when they see the fire?? For like 10 minutes straight?? Yeah, I didn't think so. For our next significant purchase I'm looking for a truck with no wheels, maybe propped on some cinder blocks. Anyone know where to get one??

*Some of you have asked where you buy such a significant purchase - here's where we got ours. Sometimes depending on traffic and flooding in our area Mike will find alternate routes home. On one of these particular routes is a house that has alot of these barrels propped by a fence with a sign that says "Barrels - $8.00". So on Sunday we stopped there and bought ourselves a burn barrel.

Below are pics of the burn barrel and the brush pile that needs to go. See why we needed to make such a significant purchase now??

Weekend Wrap-Up

Friday
Mike took the day off from work to goof around with us. Logan got up at 7:30 Friday morning, downed a bottle, and went back to bed until almost 11!! We all had a lazy morning - I don't think Mike & I got up until 10:30. It was so nice. When we finally decided to start our day we went to Woodinville. Molbak's had emailed me a 30% off coupon and I couldn't pass that up! We ate some lunch at Qdoba and then headed over to Molbak's. We ended up buying some climbing rose bushes. We are planning to plant them by the retaining wall so they can climb up it. Hopefully they will fill out in the next couple of years. After Molbak's we went to the Everett Home & Garden Show. It wasn't quite what we expected - there was a lot more "home" than "garden". We were hoping to get some ideas of what would look good planted by the retaining wall but they only had one landscaping area. I bought a couple of wooden trellises to help support the roses.
Friday night after dinner we decided to go in the hot tub (sorry, can't help but rub it in sometimes) and of course Logan had a blast. He has now discovered the waterfall in it. Mike turned it up all the way and Logan would put his hand in it and get all of us wet. He learned pretty fast though to keep his mouth shut. He also liked the back massage he would get when we laid him on his back and let the water from the waterfall hit it. He just laughed and smiled. After Logan went to sleep I made a batch of chocolate chip cookies and used up most of the chocolate from Easter.
**BTW - Mike got to change the messy diaper Friday morning so I didn't have to deal with the Taco Bell so HA!! So no nice surprise for me but Mike sure did get one.
Saturday
There were tons of garage sales going on around town so Logan & I got up and dressed and headed out to find some good deals. We went to about 5 of them and found something at each one! I found another planter for out front, some plants, and found some toys, books, and clothes for Logan. I think we spent under $15 for all of it. I didn't find any books for myself though which would have been nice. Maybe next weekend I'll find some.
Once Mike got home from school we got some yard work done. It was such a beautiful day out there was no way I was going to waste it inside. After that we went over to Heidi & Jerome's for dinner. Heidi made homemade pizza which was very yummy! Logan was good the whole time we were there - he even ate some pizza.
Sunday
It was a nice & lazy day. The weather was perfect (about 72 degrees out). We ran over to Everett to buy some shorts for me & Mike - I got two pairs and a shirt and Mike got three. We also bought Logan some shoes. They are so cute! We got him a pair of tennis shoes with little baseballs on them and then a pair of sandals. Sunday night while in the tub Logan crawled!! Lately he's been getting stronger and stronger and able to stay on his hands & knees for more than a couple seconds. The other day he took like two little crawls (is that what you call it??), but tonight he crawled the entire length of the tub. It was so cute seeing his little butt sway back and forth!! I'm sure he will be crawling around the house in no time.

What Logan's Been Up To

Logan is starting to get around. It's so funny watching him because he doesn't know how to crawl yet. Here is my best description of Logan's mobility: He sits on the floor and picks out the object he wants to get to. First he will lunge at it, if he still can't reach it he then sits himself back up and skooches on his butt. Once he's satisfied that he's close enough he will lunge again. He repeats this process until he reaches the object. Once arriving at the object he realizes he didn't want THAT one, he wants the other toy back by where he started. This process can repeat for quite a while. It's pretty funny to watch it. If I'm on the floor with him he will also climb on me - I can't believe how strong he is getting.
Logan is also able to now pull himself into a standing position. He'll skooch himself over to his LeapFrog and then pull himself up so he can play with it. He'll occasionally fall on his butt but he just pulls himself back up again. He's also decided to try to pull himself up while we are on a walk. I do not like this! He'll be sitting in his stroller and then decide to lean over the edge - I don't have a problem with this, it's the next step. After he's decided that he is bored watching the road he decides to then lift his butt in the air so that he is on his feet. Once this step happens I pick him up, plop him back down in the stroller, and strap him in. He hates it when this happens because then he can't move around as much as he wants to. I'm sure you're thinking "why don't you just strap him in right away?". Well - because he doesn't like it and will fuss the ENTIRE walk and that is not fun for either of us.
Well I think that is all for the updates. Oh, wait - one more thing: Logan had his first taste of Taco Bell today. I ordered a soft shell taco for him and he ate all of it except the lettuce. I'm sure I'll get a nice surprise in the diaper tomorrow morning!

I've Found a New Favorite

In a couple of my blog entries I've talked about Molbak's nursery. Well I'm sorry to say that Molbak's has now been replaced by a new favorite: Flower World. This place is HUGE!! It has over 15 acres of retail area. I had seen the signs when we would go over to Maltby or Lynnwood but I was never able to convince Mike to go there. Today I wanted to get out of the house so I decided to check the place out. I packed Logan into the car and headed over there. When we turned into the parking lot it was like the Heavens started singing. It was so big and flowers were everywhere. I think that is what my Heaven would be like. I'm so glad I had the Baby Bjorn in the truck - there is no way I could have walked as much as I did if I had to carry Logan in my arms. I restrained myself while there too - I only bought 4 little plants. As you can see in the picture below I planted my last planter in the front of our house. I bought some marigolds to put in there. There are a couple reasons I think I will be visiting Flower World again: It is closer to our home than Molbak's (about 10 minutes) and it is cheaper! While I was there I wanted to look for some shrubs - I found some I really liked and at Flower World they were $5.99 each, the same ones were $12.99 at Molbak's!! That is a huge difference - especially if we plant them out by the retaining wall (we'll need about 5-6 plants). I can't wait to go back there, maybe I'll be able to convince Mike to join me.

Two More Teeth

I forgot to mention in my last entry that Logan got up EVERY night at least once while my family was here. Well, I guess there was a reason for it: He got two new teeth! We knew he was teething it was just a matter of waiting for them to pop through. I noticed them today when he was giggling. He now has his two top ones, so a grand total of four teeth so far! It must have taken a lot out of him too because today he took a 2 hour nap in the morning and a 2 1/2 hour nap this afternoon!
I got some much needed housework done; the laundry is all finished and the dishes are put away. I also got most of the Easter stuff packed up. I was also able to run to the store and buy some more flowers. I got another one of my planters planted (I'll try to post pictures tomorrow) and I got some Hen & Chicks put in the ground. I love those litttle things - they multiply like crazy!!
I finally changed the video on the site. For some reason a couple of weeks ago he thought one of his piggy banks was the funniest thing ever. He just kept giggling and giggling. Hope you enjoy it!

We Had Such a Nice Time

The company has all gone home. Today it's just me & Logan at home, Mike will be at work until late. It feels weird not having anyone else here - especially my little 4 year old cousin Dakota. It was such a nice Easter to be around some family. Everyone got here safe & sound and we got a lot of visiting in. Logan did really well too. He warmed right up to his Great Aunt Cris.
On Friday we (my Aunt Gail, Uncle Jim, cousin Dakota, me and Logan) went down to the Aquarium in Seattle. Dakota had a fun time and Logan seemed to enjoy it also. The sea otters were extra playful that day so they were really fun to watch. They were swimming around on their backs and act like they were cleaning each other. After the aquarium we went over to Alki Beach - it was pretty windy out though so we didn't stay too long.
On Saturday the rest of the visitors showed up. My Uncle Dean, Aunt Cris, and cousins Joel & Janel drove up from Salem, OR. We got a lot of visiting in and prepared for Easter that night. We dyed some eggs and made a trap to catch the Easter bunny. We did catch him on Sunday but he had turned into a stuffed one! He left all of us lots of candy and some toys for the little ones.
Sunday was a beautiful day - the weather was wonderful. The Easter dinner turned out - everything was delicious! We all stuffed ourselves. Logan got to enjoy his first chocolate Easter bunny. He wasn't too sure what to do with it but Great Uncle Jim helped him out. He didn't make too much of a mess at first but when we took him out of the high-chair he had chocolate stuck in the front of his diaper - and it was melting!! After dinner the Oregonians headed home and we relaxed for the rest of the day. After supper Mike, Logan, Dakota, and I went out in the hot tub. Logan loved watching Dakota swim around and splash him. Dakota would squirt Logan with the water toys and Logan just giggled. It was sad today when we woke up and they were gone. I guess last night Dakota told his Mom he didn't want to go home - he wanted to stay here with Logey. How cute is that?? I hope everyone had a great Easter holiday. Now I have to figure out how to get rid of all this chocolate - maybe I'll make some chocolate chunk cookies.

The Company Will Be Here Soon

I'm getting so excited.............and so nervous! My family is coming for Easter. My Aunt Gail, Uncle Jim, and cousin Dakota (age 4) from Canada and my Uncle Dean, Aunt Cris, and cousins Joel and Janel from Salem, OR will be arriving soon. Gail will be here this evening and Dean will be arriving on Friday. None of them have been to our house before and I'm looking very forward to the visit. This will also be the first time they will meet Logan. I'm hoping that this visit will help with Logan's seperation anxiety and prepare him for when we go back to ND in May. Since we live so far away from most of our families we don't get to spend many holidays with them. Usually if we're lucky we get to see some for the major ones - usually Christmas and the 4th of July.
I've got most of the groceries purchased - Gail & I will do the rest of the shopping on Friday. I bought some gorgeous Easter Lillies today I hope they decide to bloom by Sunday. I've also got all of the Easter goodies ready to go. We'll be having an egg hunt and hiding the Easter baskets for everyone. It's supposed to rain on Sunday so this will most likely take place inside the house which is kind of a bummer. And of course dying Easter eggs. I bought 3 different types of dying kits so it should be fun. I'm sure we'll get lots of card playing in and tons of visiting in. I probably won't be blogging too much during this time though I do have some drafts ready to go so I'll probably be putting those up.
Hope you all have a wonderful Easter! Don't eat too much chocolate!!

It's About Time!

Kansas House passes immigration bill
TOPEKA — The House approved a bill 125-0 today that would require courts to report illegal immigrants convicted of driving under the influence or domestic battery to immigration officials.
The proposal came from Rep. Becky Hutchins, a Holton Republican who has tried to pass other measures to reduce illegal immigration.
The move comes in response to the death of Jodie Hatzenbihler, a nurse who was struck and killed by an intoxicated illegal immigrant as she crossed a street in Lawrence last year. The driver had been convicted of DUI before but had not been deported.
Hutchins said she’s not sure if the driver’s illegal status was reported after his first offense or if such reporting is mandated by federal laws.
The proposal came as an amendment to a bill that makes it illegal to traffic counterfeit pharmaceutical drugs that foreign companies sometimes produce in violation of other companies’ patents.

I guess at least something good came out of this horrible tragedy that was bestowed upon our family. Now if only ALL the other states decide to do this!!

A Day of Remembering

Yesterday marked a sad day of remembering for our family. It marked the one year "anniversary" of Jodie's death. Jodie was hit & killed by a drunk driver on April 9th, 2005. You can read more about it here if you would like. Jodie grew up in Salem, OR - she was 2 years younger than me. Jodie & I always got along really well and I have some great memories of when they would come back for vacation. We always hung out together while they were back. Jodie was a great athlete and such a wonderful person - I wish we would have stayed in contact more.
I've been hearing about the new legislation for the illegal immigrants that are in our country. I think it's safe to say that my whole family has a strong opinion on this. You see if they would deport the illegal aliens as soon as they found out my cousin would STILL BE ALIVE!! The asshole who killed her was an illegal immigrant and did not speak a word of English. After he hit her he had no idea what he had done and went home to SLEEP! When they went to his home to question him they found that he had previously been arrested on a drunk driving charge. Even though they found out that he was an illegal alien over a year before this tragedy they DID NOT deport him! Can you believe this?? And we are now housing him in our prison system instead of sending him back to Mexico. As soon as he's done serving his sentence he will be going back to Mexico. Why don't they send him back now - look at all the tax dollars that are being wasted on this scum! For this reason and this reason alone can't people see why we should pass this law? I understand they came here for a better life but if they break the law and are caught why don't we deal with them at that time instead of waiting for something worse to happen? Jodie had a wonderful life ahead of her and he ruined it and made this hurt in all of my family that will NEVER go away!
I have no problem if someone has come into the USA by the proper means - almost all of my friends are from another country. I just think if you want to live in another country you should follow their rules and not try to sneak in.
This is just my opinion - you can disagree if you want but I don't think I will ever change my mind when it comes to illigal aliens staying in our country.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Even though it was rainy & cold out we still managed to have a nice weekend.
Saturday:
- Mike had the usual morning of school and I was able to sleep in for the first time since Monday. It felt SO nice! In the afternoon I attended a baby shower for one of my friends. She's due in June and they decided not to find out what they are having. Do you know how hard it is to buy for a baby when you don't know if it's a boy or girl?? I bought her some bath stuff, baby toys, and neutral colored onesies. It was so nice to see everyone, although they were disappointed that I didn't bring Logan with.
Sunday:
- We didn't really do much. Logan took his first shower. Of course he loved it! The whole time we were in there he just wanted to hold his hands under the water.
Sunday afternoon Mike decided that he was in the mood for Chicago Style Pizza and since we live in the Seattle area this was no easy task. There is a place in North Bend that serves Chicago Style but we wanted to find a new one. We started out looking online and only found one. It was located in Seattle at University Village. We decided we would go there for lunch/dinner so that Logan didn't get too cranky while we were there and to avoid the dinner rush. It was at a place called Delfino's and it was delicious! It was just like the pizza we would order when we lived in Chicago. I think that is the one thing I miss about Chicago. Well that and Kosta's (a Greek restaurant). After we were done eating we walked around the outdoor mall for awhile - but didn't find anything we weren't able to live without. Which was probably a good thing.
We also managed to get a little bit of cleaning done. We've got family coming to town for Easter so I wanted to get a start on the cleaning.

Hope you all had a great weekend!! I'll see you tomorrow, we're off to the hot tub!

We Had A Break-In

Our neighbor broke into our house tonight! Can you believe it?? (Well I did sort of ask him to.)
Let me explain: We have a door in our family room that leads out to the garage. This is the door we use the most often. Whenever Logan & I go on a walk we go out this door since the stroller is kept in the garage. We just leave the garage door open while we're outside, this way we don't have to mess with keys. Tonight it completely bit me in the butt.
I've been diligent about walking this week. So far I've walked every day and 3 days I've walked twice. Each of the walks are about a mile. Tonight I wanted to keep my streak going. We had gone on a walk at 2, then after dinner we went on another walk. We only made one lap around the neighborhood and Logan began to get a little cranky. I decided we would just go home and he would get his bath a little early. We get into the garage, I take him out of the stroller, and reach to turn the handle on the door. And guess what?? The freakin' door is locked!! There are two other ways to get in our house - the front door and the patio door in the back. Checked the front door but it was locked (Tonight Mike is at school so I keep it locked until he gets home), checked the patio door but it was also locked.
Now this has happened a couple of times before, but Mike was with us. All I know is he used a crow-bar to pry the door open. So I dug around in the garage for the bar - found it - and tried to use it in the door. Well I had no idea what I was doing. I didn't want to break the door and Logan was screaming and I was beginning to stress out. Then I remembered: our neighbors have a key! Then I remembered: they left for Las Vegas today. But then I thought: I bet they are having the other neighbor boy check on their pets and I saw that his car was home so I'll just go get him and we can look in their kitchen for our house key. We walk down our hill and his car is gone! At this point I'm about to cry. But then another brilliant thought comes to me: I saw that another neighbor was home. I'll just ask him if he can break in for us. So I go to their door, ring the bell, and kindly ask them, "Would you mind breaking into my house?"
He was able to get the door open without causing any damage to it. I was so happy!! So now I have to decide how I'm going to thank them. Do you think they'll enjoy some ooey, gooey chocolate chip caramel bars?? I hope so 'cuz I'm about to start baking!!

I Might Have a New Job

A couple of weeks ago one of our friends was let go from her job. She had been doing contract work so she knew this might happen. At the end of March her contract was not renewed. Instead of trying to find another temp. job she & her husband decided that she should go back to school. That way she can get her degree and find a more permanent job doing something she loves. They have a 7 & 2 1/2 year old. The 7 year old is in school so they didn't have to worry about finding someone to watch her but the 2 1/2 year old was a different story. He had been in daycare but they weren't happy with it. And it was too expensive to keep him there while she's not working.
They asked me about a week ago if I would be willing to watch him. It would end up being 5-6 hours each day. I of course said yes, I figure it will be some extra money that will help with the bills and maybe help fund my trip back to ND. So far I've watched him 2 days and things have gone fine. Him & Logan seem to do pretty good around each other. I will be watching him from 7 am - 1 pm. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I have already email Jenn and she was kind enough to give me some great pointers. He is also trying to be potty-trained right now so any pointers on that would be great. So far we haven't had any success with the potty but I think he's scared of the big toilet. Let me know if you have any pointers, they would be greatly appreciated!

Weekend Wrap-Up

We had such a great weekend - too bad we didn't do anything productive! Hahahaha.
Here is our weekend wrap-up:
Saturday:
Logan & I went to another huge garage sale put on by MOMS (Mothers of Multiples), but this one was pretty diappointing. I only found 2 outfits that will not fit him right now - everything else he can wear now and through the summer. I did find 4 PJ's, 2 t-shirts, and 4 outfits, and a little rattle for him for only $19 so I guess it wasn't too bad. But not nearly as good as last time!
Then Saturday night we invited some of our friends up (10 total) for a BBQ. Mike made BBQ spare ribs on the grill and I made some honey garlic ones in the oven. I made a broccoli salad and a spinach salad to go with them. For dessert I made Kacey's Berried Delight, everything turned out really good. It was so nice getting to see everyone - even though we live less than 5 minutes away from them and some are our next door neighbors we still don't see them as often as we would like.
Sunday:
Daylight savings time began which completely screwed me up. Mike let me sleep in until 11:30 but with the time change it was 12:30!! Talk about feeling like a bum. Once I did get up and shower we went to lunch at Denny's. Logan chowed down on pancakes - he's getting much better when we go to a restaurant. He loves getting to try the different food and drinking out of straws. Oh, and something a little off the subject, but why do complete strangers feel the need to touch my child?? I know he's cute and all but please keep your grubbies off of him - I don't know where those hands have been!! Ok, much better now. After Denny's we went to the park. It was such a beautiful day out (65 degrees) and a little windy so Mike decided to take his kite (it looks like a pirate ship) down there. It did pretty well once it got up in the air - the wind wasn't constant though so it took some talent to keep it airborn. Once we were done with the kite flying we went for a walk down by the pond. About halfway through the walk Logan decided that he had had enough so Mike had to carry him the rest of the way. Oh well, he still did pretty good considering it had been over 3 1/2 hours since his last nap.
