A New Adventure

So a couple of months ago I tried to sell some books on craigslist and did not have any luck. The books have been sitting in my living room now since then - collecting dust. I had Mike move them out to the garage where they are now collecting dust and cobwebs. I wanted to get rid of these books and have not made a trip to goodwill lately. Tonight while cleaning out my "favorites" menu on the laptop I stumbled across a site that I had found awhile ago. Maybe you've heard of it: Bookcrossing.com? To start out, view the left sidebar. You'll see a section called "go hunting" - this is where you'll search for books in your area.

I have now decided I'm going to "release" a couple of my books into the wild. I'm excited to see who will find them and where they will travel to. I've already made a little list of some of the books in my area that I plan to pick up. One is located in a dentist's office - do you think they'll find it strange if I walk in, pick up a book, and leave? Ooohhh, the adventure is about to begin!

I think all the locals that read my blog should try this too - maybe we'll boost up the "wild" books in our area a bit!!

I HAVE heard of bookcrossing.com!!! My best friend showed me the site--I loved the concept, but love my books too much to set them free-and am not rich enough to buy a replacement. :D I've noticed that there are A LOT OF PEOPLE who set their books free at Sam's Club--lol

I have heard of them, I have also sold a bunch on half.com and it has helped me to get rid of a lot of our books. But we still have lots of books!
Hope that you are having a good weekend!

What a cool idea! I don't think my hubby would part with any of his books. (I cleaned out when I moved from Colorado...)

I hope your adventures are fun! Is it rainy there this weekend too?

I was thinking about your dad and his cause - I hope he and his coworkers are ok.

Take care!

This is such a cute idea. I sent the link to a bookfunatic friend of mine as well. My only problem is this: I am directionally challenged. Not sure how I'll ever find any of the books listed!!!

:) We went to the library again today--I'm thinking our schedule's gonna end up having Monday be library day. :) I STILL don't know if or when the toddler reading schedule is... I'm just not thinking about that while I'm trying to keep Scooter entertained and busy and picking out books. :) He picked out his own three books--we read all three of his and the one I picked--TWICE each. :D He's crazy about the books and would have read them through again if I would have facilitated. :) Later, later, later.

I had a bunch of books waiting for me... I'm so excited that it's naptime. It's perfect book-reading weather--a little on the chilly side. I'm going to go get a blanket right now!! :D

I haven't heard of it but I think I will check it out!
Everytime I visit your page it looks different! You are really adding to it and it looks great! Blog spot looks like it's treating you well.
Your poor father! I hope things get better real fast. It sounds like no picnic! I have to admit that CA labor laws are a little more gentler to employees than WA...that's the one thing my hubs and I noticed. It's more expensive but it seems that you are treated a little better.
We plan on getting the house halloweeniefied this week...I have to try to dig out all of my halloween decorations out my boxes!!
Take care
Cheryl

They give you a range of prices for the book when you enter the the name and you can pick what you charge for it. No you don't get top dollar for it, but it did my heart good just to move them on. I kept looking at all the clutter and knew that I had to do something with them. You know that gives me an idea for our weekend. Maybe we can do a reading circle of sorts, try to figure out what we all like and swap books amongst each other. What better way to recycle? :-)

How has your day gone?

Hugs,
Becca

I did hear about this site from a friend a couple months ago. I have books I would like to try this with but just haven't gotten around to it. I think you should try it!

Half Price Books buys books too but they only give you a pittance for them. But it's better than nothing I guess...

ummm...is this mic on?....helloooo?

I posted a second ago but it went into la-la land.

I love book crossing - i used to link it on my blog as "if you love something, set it free" - but I haven't been there in awhile - I've just joined a bookclub too so I'm hoping that will work out - mind you the kids have every night booked for something so not sure when I'll sneak something in for me as an evening activity!

I feel like I'm working some weird swing shift - early morning shift and then the afternoon/evening shift - the pay sucks - I think it's kinda glorified volunteering actually but the benefit package ain't bad - lots of kisses and hugs and I got an I love you note from my daughter the other day that said i love you and 4 zillion times on it.
